Q: I can't imagine it ever happening t any1 here, but has any1 ever seen a bellydancer perform in which she was booed or heavily criticized by the audience after her routine was finished? Considering most dancers today are those performing to get their ''dancing chops'' wet in the public venue arenas, I like to think the critique meters are turned down as low as they can go...but there's that one unfortunate circumstance where a dancer has a bad outing, and to make matters worse, rubs the audience the wrong way (hopefully not, of course).

has it ever happened to you or someone you know or saw happen to some1 else?

what safeguards does one take (especially seconds after) to even lessen the blows delivered, help
that dancer shake it off and move past it and keep a positive outlook?

feedback and follow-up ?'s welcomed...

  • I think the most I've ever seen audiences do is either ignore the dancer if they can (chatting or eating), then give half-hearted applause.
But on the other hand, the shows that are attended by dancers are a very different story. In that case I think critique meters are way too low.

Most bellydance audiences are too long-suffering in my opinion! I think it's a mistake to treat every show as some kind of student recital where low quality performances are not only readily accepted but actually encouraged with loud applause & zaghareet - you say
"Considering most dancers today are those performing to get their ''dancing chops'' wet in the public venue arenas"
but dancers should get performance experience in recitals & student haflas, rather than restaurants where the general public is watching. When the general public sees a mediocre dancer wildly applauded by the audience, what are they going to think?
