I can't beliee it's been 8 years now that I've been doing this. :)~
And each year, trying to find 64 bellydancers (soloists) that stands out and/or made an impact in bellydance/ Middle Eastern folk dances, and/or a presence on the world wide web gets angst-ridden, but if it hurts, then you're feeling something, I guess. For this year, I felt a need to give a few newbies some cyberprops for 2008, a lot of folks who were ''on the doorstep'' in past years but were squeezed out by the usual names who make an impact annually, which made this year even harder to amass.
Opening voting begins on June 1-28, and I like to think I got a good mix of dancers across this place we call Earth:

For those who may be new to this thingy, there are 16 dancers per ''ballot''. For June's voting, you can vote for up to 8 dancers you'd like to see advance in each ballot. The field will be down to 32 for the next round in July, then 16 in August, 8 in September, 4 in October and the finals in November.

a) Those who have made a positive impact on the art form(s) participated on an
annual basis, the nominees this year representing 2007.
b) Those who have excelled in making an impact in a given specific genre of
bellydance or Middle Eastern dance
c) Those wh have made an impact in some form or fashion in the last year (in 2007)
on video or DVD, as a performer or producer, etc.
d) Those who combine a blend of bellydance with their presence on the internet that
has made a positive presence for others
e) Those, in the US and internationally who has represented their residence, in 2007
and/or over a period of years/in their career(s).
e) Site feedback and recommendations from other bellydancers/Middle Eastern dance
performers on the web and in the art form.
These are some of the major critierium(s) I've gone by over the years....

PS--You'll notice the ''ballot'' doesn;t list every1 in the same genre or dance choice/selections, just as a collective representation, because so many dancers perform so many, it's hard to ''pigeonhole'' a dancer to one ballot based on a particular dance form, hence the ballot of 16/12 format.... -
